Problems with Live Radar Flight Tracks?
The SFO Near Live Flight Tracks webpage contains a Java "Applet" that shows
live radar flight tracks. When the Applet loads
(which could take anywhere from a few seconds to
a minute, depending on the speed of your Internet
connection), you should see
a green, sweeping radar button (like the sample
shown on the left).
Once you click on this button, a separate
window should appear that depicts a map of the
airport area and surrounding region, and then images of aircraft should
begin to appear and move along the map.
If the green button does not appear, or if it does
appear but the map never appears, or if the map
appears but you never see any aircraft, there could
be one of several problems:
-
Browser Not Java Enabled
Some people disable Java capabilities within the browser
for security reasons. Java applets are SAFE programs
that run within the browser that can NOT access your local
PCs resources (disk, printers, etc.)
To see if Java is disabled in Internet Explorer:
choose Tools, Internet Options, then choose the Security Tab.
Click the Custom Level Button, then scroll down to Microsoft VM,
Java permissions. This should be set to "High Safety":
If it is set
to "Custom" or "Disable Java", the Flight Track Applet will not run.
To do the same in Netscape, choose Edit, Preferences, and click
on Advanced. Make sure "Enable Java" is checked.
-
Checking Status
If the map appears but you do not see any flights
on the screen, click on the "Help" menu and then
click on "Status". This will give you more information
about what could be wrong. A couple possibilities:
-
No Radar Data
It is possible (although rare) that the radar feed
can go down. In these cases, the map will display
but it will not show any flights. It will keep trying to
get flight data, and once the radar feed resumes
it will begin showing flights again.
The Help/Status window on the Map display will tell
you if this is occuring.
-
Firewall Restriction
The Flight Track Applet may not run if your PC is
located behind a firewall. If you think your firewall
is preventing you from running this applet, please
contact your MIS department (or whomever is in charge
of your firewall) and ask them to
allow TCP/IP access to live.airportnetwork.com at port 7777.
Again, the Help/Status window on the Map display will tell
you if this is occuring.
-
Still doesn't work?
If you've verified the items above and the applet still
does not work, please send email to:
support@QuantumSI.com
Please include a description of your problem and your phone number.
Also, it would be VERY helpful if you could also copy-and-paste the
contents of your browser's "Java Console". This is where error
messages are placed when applets do not run properly, and it will
greatly help us diagnose the problem.
In Internet Explorer, the Java Console can be brought up by
choosing View, Java Console. The Java Console will then appear
where you can copy all the messages and place them in an email to us.
NOTE: If you do NOT see a choice for "Java Console" in the View
Menu, then your browser does not have the Java Console turned on.
To enable the Java Console in Internet Explorer, choose Tools,
Internet Options, click the Advanced Tab, and scroll down until
you see the choice under Microsoft VM for Java console enabled
(requires restart):
Make sure this is checked, then restart Internet Explorer,
go the Flight Tracks web page again, and bring up the Java Console.
In Netscape, the Java Console is located under Communicator, Tools,
Java Console.
